Animal rights at centre of upcoming public talk

Most Canadians are outraged by stories of animal abuse yet, paradoxically, Canada has the worst animal protection laws in the western world, says activist Camille Labchuk.“But there’s reason to be optimistic,” says the animal rights lawyer and executive director of Animal Justice, who is giving a public talk at Brock next week.“Animal issues are making news headlines like never before, cases are being fought in court and new laws are finally being passed. I look forward to discussing the rise of animal law with the Brock University community.”The public is invited to “The Rise of Animal Rights Law in Canada” on Tuesday, Nov. 6, at 7 p.m. in Brock University’s South Block 204.Labchuk will explore the legal status of animals in Canada and how every individual can play a role in improving the laws protecting them. This talk is jointly presented by Brock’s Department of Political Science and Niagara Action for Animals with support from the Hugh James Corcoran Memorial Trust Fund. The lecture is part of the Department of Political Science Speaker Series, which runs monthly throughout the academic year, with the exception of December and April. For more information on this and other talks in the series, email [email protected] read more
