first_imgManaging businesses in the Ebola crisis, the USAID sponsored-Liberia Investing for Business Expansion Program (IBEX) on Friday, October 24, provided technical advice and business support to small-and medium-sized enterprises (SME’s) in the country.Addressing newsman in Monrovia at the end of the training, the Acting Chief of Party, Augustus J. Flomo, said the current business climate in Liberia, has posed a serious threat on small and medium-sized businesses and as such, “We need to provide them some technical [pieces of] advice and support that they will use to do their businesses in this Ebola crisis.”The workshop, according to Mr. Flomo was taken from a broader prospective looking at local businesses and the challenges and what IBEX can do to help them.As a matter of fact, he said IBEX is already working with SMEs providing them technical support in what they do.Importantly, Mr. Flomo said they have been a forecast on the Liberian economy during this Ebola crisis that “Liberia is going to have a down trodden trunk in the economy, instead of going up as a country because we are the hardest hit country from the virus.According to him, to turn that around is to make sure Liberian businesses have the right capacity and to ensure that they are functioning well in the economy. He disclosed that his institution is assisting international organizations seeking to use our extensive networks to identify local businesses that can supply sanitary materials and local construction companies that can build Ebola treatment centers.Beneficiaries of the workshop thanked IBEX for the training. They promised to use knowledge acquired for their businesses’ advantage in this health crisis. In separate remarks, the participants told journalists that the IBEX’s workshop had been of great eye opener for them.Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)last_img read more

first_imgA Donegal woman has said a thousand and ten thanks to the Donegal Mountain Rescue Team.Patrician McBride, her partner and their dog, were recently rescued by the DMRT when they got lost on a grim day up Muckish recently. But instead of a simply ‘thank you’, Patricia decided to raise much-needed funds for the voluntary service. So she and some friends organised a table quiz in Molly’s Bar in Dunfanaghy and managed to raise €1,010.PRO of the DMRT Brian Murray said Patricia’s fundraising venture came completely out of the blue but they were delighted to receive the much-needed funds.DRMT received very little funding apart from a 20% Government grant but rely mainly on contributions despite their terrific work.Pictured leftt to right are Brian Murray, Patricia Mc Bride, Brian Pat Murray, Timmy Diver.
