AddThis Sharing ButtonsShare to TwitterTwitterShare to FacebookFacebookShare to RedditRedditShare to 電子郵件Email Thinkstock Albertans cutting back Christmas spending this year: poll by Mike Tarasko Posted Dec 2, 2016 7:34 am MDT Many Albertans feel forced to be a little more like Scrooge than Santa Claus this year.A new ATB Financial poll shows 41 per cent of us will be spending less than we did last year on Christmas gifts, with one in five significantly cutting back.“It’s not as bad as you might think it would be given how long the downturn has been going,” Rob Roach, Director of Insight with ATB, said.But, he says it’s not surprising so many people are paring down the spending this holiday.“People are planning to reduce spending among all income categories but it is higher among those who make less than $40,000 a year,” Roach said.On a brighter note, almost half of Albertans still plan to spend the same as last year, with 10 per cent saying they’ll spend more.He says Christmas 2017 should be a little better for retailers as the province slowly climbs out of recession. read more
