Man, woman charged with possession of meth, ecstasy, marijuana

first_img WhatsApp Twitter Pinterest WhatsApp Amora Stephens A 40-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman were arrested with possession of methamphetamine, ecstasy and marijuana.Lacoy Oshay Hawkins, 40, was charged with possession of a controlled substance of more than four grams and less than 200 grams, a second-degree felony, possession of a controlled substance of more than one gram and less than four grams, a third-degree felony, failure to identify fugitive with the intent to give false information, a class A misdemeanor, and possession of marijuana, a class B misdemeanor.Amora Marquet Stephens, 28, was charged with possession of a controlled substance of more than four grams and less than 200 grams, a second-degree felony, possession of a controlled substance of more than one gram and less than four grams, a third-degree felony, possession of marijuana, a class B misdemeanor.Hawkins was also charged with going off bond from assault by strangulation (family violence), a third-degree felony, and continuous family violence (family violence), a third-degree felony, from May 8.Officers were conducting a special assignment in the 2100 block of West 15th Street at 2:54 p.m. Monday because of reported drug activity in the area, the Odessa Police Department affidavit detailed.Officers saw a 2008 silver and red Chevrolet HHR stop at one of the residences that officers were watching, the affidavit stated. The HHR picked up a person and took off. Officers followed the HHR.As the HHR was traveling west in the 3100 block of West 16th Street, officers reportedly stated the vehicle’s insurance was unconfirmed. A traffic stop was conducted.The driver, identified as Stephens, stated the HHR was uninsured and she didn’t have proof of financial responsibility, the affidavit stated. The front right passenger identified himself as 33-year-old Lamarcus Owens.Officers asked Stephens if there was anything illegal in the HHR and she stated there shouldn’t be, the affidavit detailed. Stephens reportedly gave consent to search the vehicle.Officers located several clear plastic baggies wrapped in a black handkerchief that was in Stephens’ purse, the affidavit stated. Two of the clear plastic baggies contained a white crystal like substance that reportedly field tested positive for meth. There was one plastic baggy that contained a green crystal like substance that also reportedly field tested positive for meth.There were two plastic baggies that contained multicolored pills that field tested positive for ecstasy and two plastic baggies containing a green leafy substance known to be marijuana, the affidavit detailed.There were 19.2 grams of meth and 15 ecstasy pills that weigh three grams, the affidavit stated.Officers also found out that Owens’ real name was Hawkins and that he several warrants out of Ector County, the affidavit detailed. Hawkins initially stated the narcotics in the HHR were his.Officers read Hawkins his Miranda Warning and he stated he understood his rights and was willing to talk to officers, the affidavit stated. Officers asked Hawkins of all the narcotics that were found in the HHR which were his, he refused to talk to officers.Stephens was also read her Miranda Warning and she stated she understood her rights and was willing to talk to officers, the affidavit stated. Stephens stated she had no knowledge of the narcotics that were found in her purse and she believed Hawkins put them there.Stephens and Hawkins were arrested, charged and transported to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center. Stephens has three bonds totaling $65,500, while Hawkins has six bonds totaling $126,500, jail records show. Stephens and Hawkins were both in custody as of Tuesday afternoon.
