Mumbai boyscores 498 runs, creates record

first_imgMumbai, which has produced several record-breaking batsmen, found yet another child prodigy on Wednesday when Armaan Jaffer scored 498 runs creating a new record of the highest individual score in an innings in school cricket history.Thirteen-year-old Armaan — nephew of the former India opener and Ranji captain of Mumbai, Wasim Jaffer — smashed 498 runs during a match for Rizvi Springfield High School against Shivaji School. He struck as many as 77 fours in 490 balls at Cross Maidan in south Mumbai before being caught just two short of yet another landmark of 500. Armaan set a new national record beating Nagpur’s Ali Zorain Khan’s score of 461 runs in a single innings.Team India has been fortunate to benefit from the talent of some young prodigies, including Sachin Tendulkar. Of course not everyone grows up to be Tendulkar but then Team India have been lucky with such prodigies. Probably Armaan could be the next big thing to watch out for.Armaan, like any other aspiring international cricketer, idolises Tendulkar. The younger Jaffer was understandably disappointed at missing out on 500 runs.”Sachin Tendulkar is my idol. It feels great to play such a long innings. I was not looking to set records but wanted to bat as long as possible,” he said at the end of his marathon innings. Armaan’s proud father Kaleem Jaffer now believes that there is more to come from the young boy.”I liked the determination and temperament that Armaan maintained during the innings. He batted responsibly and with a great patience,” Kaleem said.advertisementlast_img read more
