Krause signing on behalf of the bank. The action was reportedly aimed at correcting shortcomings in the bank’s compliance with anti-money laundering requirements, including compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA).In the action, the Fed said East West Bank maintained a branch in Hong Kong and had various foreign subsidiaries, including representative offices and an international banking subsidiary in Shanghai, China, as well as various domestic subsidiaries. An examination by the Federal Reserve and the California Department of Business Oversight Division of Financial Institutions that year identified the alleged deficiencies, according to the written agreement signed in 2015.In the agreement, the Fed said it required the East West Bank board of directors to address the deficiencies by strengthening the Fed’s oversight and by submitting a written plan to this effect. The plan would describe the actions the board of directors intend to take to improve the bank’s compliance with the BSA and AML requirements, as well as with regulations issued by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the United States Department of the Treasury. At a minimum, the plan required the establishment of a BSA/AML and OFAC compliance committee, most of the members of which had to be outside directors. The plan was also required to contain clearly defined roles and responsibilities for senior bank management to oversee compliance with the BSA/AML requirements and the OFAC regulations.Other than developing and adopting a BSA/AML compliance program, the bank was also required to develop and adopt “appropriate levels of customer due diligence,” and to ensure that all suspected violations of law or suspicious transactions are identified and reported in a timely, accurate and complete manner to law enforcement and supervisory authorities. The Federal Reserve also required the bank to engage an independent consultant acceptable to the Reserve Bank that conducted a review of account and transaction activity, especially those associated with any high-risk customer accounts conducted through the bank between April 1, 2014 and October 31, 2014.The review was intended to find out whether any suspicious activity involving high-risk customer accounts or transactions through the Bank have been properly identified and reported in accordance with reporting regulations. The consultant was required to submit a written report detailing the findings.Tuesday’s announcement terminating the enforcement action indicates that East West Bank has been able to meet the requirements as agreed to with the Federal Reserve.East West Bank is a wholly owned subsidiary of East West Bancorp, a publicly owned company with total assets over $38.1 billion, and is one of the largest independent banks headquartered in California. The bank operates in over 130 locations mainly in the United States and Greater China markets. In China, East West’s presence includes full-service branches in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Shantou and Shenzhen, and representative offices in Beijing, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Taipei, and Xiamen. For more information about the bank, visit www.eastwestbank.com. Facebook Wants to Be Your One True Login

first_imgFacebook and AOL announced last night a partnership that will integrate a user’s Facebook friends into their AOL Instant Messenger. The announcement came on a day when Google announced its new attempt at capturing your social attention with Google Buzz and Yahoo! reminded us from the outskirts that they’ve been at this game for a year now.According to Mercury News, about 70% of AOL users also use Facebook and the move is a sign of where AOL is heading, but we wonder if it isn’t more a sign of where Facebook is heading and has been all along. The partnership will use Facebook Connect to import a user’s Facebook friends into their AIM contacts, enabling chat directly between the two services. This will allow AIM’s 17 million users to continue using AIM while being able to keep in touch with their existing friends on AIM.Dear visitors from Google. This site is not Facebook. This is a website called ReadWriteWeb that reports on news about Facebook and other Internet services. You can however click here and become a Fan of ReadWriteWeb on Facebook, to receive our updates and learn more about the Internet. To access Facebook right now, click here. For future reference, type “facebook.com” into your browser address bar or enter “facebook” into Google and click on the first result. We recommend that you then save Facebook as a bookmark in your browser. The Great MigrationsIf you think back to 2002, the big news was Friendster. For many of us, it was the first time we’d joined a social network and we went wild adding friends. Then, in 2003, Myspace came along and we slowly started adding these same friends on Myspace until one day the virtual cobwebs became too much and we left Friendster altogether. And then came Facebook and we did it again.Let’s face it – if we can avoid it, we’d rather not do this again and that’s precisely what Facebook wants. Facebook has already become the dominant platform for social networking, but as it expands its business in other directions, we will begin to see it pull users away from other businesses too. This partnership is not only about preventing that, but further solidifying Facebook’s place as our one, true login. The more integrated Facebook becomes, the less willing we’ll be to recreate that same web of social connections we’ve reinvented time and again. While many of us may complain about Facebook’s on-site chat breaking down, being slow or crashing our browsers, the fact remains that Facebook is where we’ve based our online social life and chat is a basic extension of this. AIM used to be one of the industry standards in this realm, but now it looks more like the company is hedging its bets and trying not to fall prey to the same circumstances that caused us to abandon other platforms. Your One True LoginAs we wrote last month, users already prefer to use Facebook Connect by a margin of 2-to-1 and countless sites already let you make connections on their site by comparing their user base with your Facebook friends. In this case, however, it isn’t the connections that are being imported – real-time interaction with an external user base is being imported. Whether or not a particular friend has an account with AOL is irrelevant. The partnership reinforces the idea that our Facebook profile is at the center of our online existence. Whether or not someone is signed into AOL is no longer what’s at stake here, it’s whether or not the user is logged into Facebook. While other integrations attempt to replicate our social connections, to port them over to the site we’re on, this one makes no such demands. We can continue using AIM while taking advantage of the particular friend set we’ve likely spent the most time cultivating and grooming – our Facebook friends. “HTTPS Now” Campaign Aims To Secure The Internet

first_imgWhy Tech Companies Need Simpler Terms of Servic… The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) and Access, a digital freedom activist group, have partnered together to start “HTTPS Now,” a campaign to spread awareness and advocate for increased Internet security.HTTPS — Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure — HTTPS is built on HTTP and integrates the Secure Sockets Layer/Transfer Layer Security protocol to ensure data encryption over a secure channel. It provides 128- to 256-bit encryption, which means that it is virtually unhackable. “We’ve heard a lot about how malicious tools like Firesheep can be used to steal data, including passwords for email and social networking accounts,” said EFF activist Eva Galperin in a press release. “HTTPS Now is aimed at protecting users from attacks like these by spreading the word about HTTPS and how to use it correctly. HTTPS provides the minimum level of security for websites. Without it, no site can make any meaningful security or privacy guarantees to its users.”The EFF has worked with Internet browser companies to help HTTPS become more ubiquitous. It has partnered with the Tor Project on “HTTPS Everywhere,” a security tool for the Firefox browser that encrypts a users’ browsing and changes it from HTTP to HTTPS whenever possible. The HTTPS movement is gaining more traction lately with a series of high-profile hacks forcing the hands of websites and social networks. Facebook issued an “HTTPS always-on” option after CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s account was broken into and Twitter recently created an option to always use HTTPS when using Twitter.com shortly after uber-user Ashton Kutcher’s account was hacked.“We want to make it easier for web users to get the security they need and deserve, but we can’t do it alone. We need an accurate picture of the state of HTTPS on the Internet. After that, we can target website operators and make it easy for them to update their sites,” said Jochai Ben-Avie of Access. “Working together, we can all be safer from identity theft, security threats, viruses, and other things that come from an insecure Internet.” dan rowinski Tags:#security#web A Web Developer’s New Best Friend is the AI Wai…center_img Top Reasons to Go With Managed WordPress Hosting 8 Best WordPress Hosting Solutions on the Market Related Posts last_img read more

Mumbai boyscores 498 runs, creates record

first_imgMumbai, which has produced several record-breaking batsmen, found yet another child prodigy on Wednesday when Armaan Jaffer scored 498 runs creating a new record of the highest individual score in an innings in school cricket history.Thirteen-year-old Armaan — nephew of the former India opener and Ranji captain of Mumbai, Wasim Jaffer — smashed 498 runs during a match for Rizvi Springfield High School against Shivaji School. He struck as many as 77 fours in 490 balls at Cross Maidan in south Mumbai before being caught just two short of yet another landmark of 500. Armaan set a new national record beating Nagpur’s Ali Zorain Khan’s score of 461 runs in a single innings.Team India has been fortunate to benefit from the talent of some young prodigies, including Sachin Tendulkar. Of course not everyone grows up to be Tendulkar but then Team India have been lucky with such prodigies. Probably Armaan could be the next big thing to watch out for.Armaan, like any other aspiring international cricketer, idolises Tendulkar. The younger Jaffer was understandably disappointed at missing out on 500 runs.”Sachin Tendulkar is my idol. It feels great to play such a long innings. I was not looking to set records but wanted to bat as long as possible,” he said at the end of his marathon innings. Armaan’s proud father Kaleem Jaffer now believes that there is more to come from the young boy.”I liked the determination and temperament that Armaan maintained during the innings. He batted responsibly and with a great patience,” Kaleem said.advertisementlast_img read more

Bobby Deol actually wore a Hello Kitty night suit to a photo-shoot

first_imgDo you remember the last time Bobby Deol made a public appearance? We don’t either. The Deol scion, who seemed to have vanished into thin air after playing the part of a DJ at a Delhi night club in 2016, is back–not with a bang. The world became aware of Bobby’s dormant sense of style after he chose to wear basic jeans and shirts even during his DJ-ing stints, and the expectations from his public appearances have been low ever since.Picture courtesy: Instagram/prodipguhaThe Baadal actor was recently spotted during a photo-shoot for an upcoming film with brother Sunny Deol and actor Shreyas Talpade, dressed like an overgrown child, to say the least. Leaving us aghast, Bobby wore an eye-pinching, yellow NIGHT SUIT for the shoot–we wish we were kidding.Picture courtesy: Instagram/socialnewsxyz Also Read: Sridevi in a velvet sweat-suit is the worst thing you’ll see todaySo there was Sunny Deol at the shoot and Bobby Deol, who could very well be called “sunny” Deol too, thanks to the loud, yellow colour that could really outshine the sun.As if the night suit wasn’t enough, the Hello Kitty print all over it left us absolutely baffled.Night suits are acceptable, but not in public, and definitely not with a cartoon like Hello Kitty printed all over it. Seriously, what are you up to, Mr Deol?Picture courtesy: Instagram/socialnewsxyz Adding insult to injury, he wore a pair of tacky running shoes with the nightmare night suit, and reminded us of his non-existent fashion sense yet again.
