Cox/Getty Images)Justin Fields might not be playing football for Georgia during the 2019 season, but the Bulldogs’ five-star freshman quarterback isn’t leaving Athens, Ga. just yet.The former No. 1 dual-threat quarterback recruit is reportedly planning on transferring out of the Georgia football program, but he could be playing in the Sugar Bowl against Texas.Georgia head coach Kirby Smart updated the plan for Fields while speaking to reporters this evening.Fields apparently wants to play for Georgia this postseason, while considering his transfer options. He was added into the NCAA’s transfer portal earlier this week.“He decided he wanted to play in the Sugar Bowl, and I told him ‘absolutely, we want you there,’ ” Smart said this evening. “Justin is working extremely hard, he’s in the meeting rooms, he’s still rolling with our twos. I’m pleased with his work and demeanor, he has had good reps.”Smart added that he would love for Fields to remain with the Bulldogs heading into the 2019 season, though there’s not much that Georgia can do.“I don’t think there’s anything you can do (to convince him to stay),” Smart said. “We’ve been very open and honest that we would like him to stay. He’s worked really hard. Ohio State coach Ryan Day is a primary reason for Fields’ interest in the Buckeyes.Fields, who will be the most coveted free agent in college football, is also considering Florida State and Oklahoma.He intends to petition the NCAA for immediate eligibility. UGASports.com reported that Fields is expected to retain Tom Mars, the attorney who helped Michigan quarterback Shea Patterson gain immediate eligibility.
