The Aloha Down Under programme included an event in Sydney. LATTE attended the evening at The Westin, Sydney on Tuesday, featuring three workshop sessions, thrilling Hawaiian entertainment and a prize draw, numbering among some 300 travel agents who came to learn the latest from hotels, airlines and services, and attractions.Hawaii remains one of the most popular destinations for a tropical getaway among Australian travellers, keen to discover its renowned beaches, stunning scenery and fabulous shopping opportunities. During the evening’s presentations, Hawaii Tourism revealed that 6 out of 10 Australians are booking their Hawaiian holiday through a travel agent, with one of the largest growth markets travelling to the idyllic isles emerging as multigenerational groups.As a finale to the roadshow, Hawaii Tourism Oceania hosted the annual Aloha Down Under Media Lunch on Friday 11 August at the Guest House at Park Hyatt Sydney. Guests, including LATTE, were enthralled by performances of traditional Hawaiian dances. The sumptuous Hawaiian-style menu included yellowfin tuna poke, chicken breast with charred pineapple, and coconut pavlova.Among the news shared by Kerri Anderson, Country Manager Australia, Hawai‘i Tourism Oceania, visits to Oahu’s neighbour islands are up. Shopping has emerged as the #1 activity for Australian visitors, followed by R&R (beaches, pools and spas). As visitors look further afield, Maui, Kauai and Hawaii, The Big Island, are growing in popularity. New experiences include a growth in farm-to-table dining experiences in upcountry Maui (complemented by the Road to Hana road trip), while popular natural attractions include Kauai’s awe-inspiring Napali Coast and the active volcanoes of the Big Island, which allow visitors to see the island grow bigger every day in real time.
